There’s good news for visually and hearing-impaired film lovers in Warwickshire.
The Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa has invested in brand new audio description headphones for its 188-seat Studio Cinema.
From August, these headphones will be available for use with any film that includes an audio description soundtrack, offering a more inclusive cinema experience for visitors with sight loss or hearing difficulties.
Audio description provides a spoken commentary of what’s happening on screen – describing visual elements such as actions, expressions and scene changes, so blind and partially sighted audiences can follow the story more fully.
The same headsets can also be used by people who are hard of hearing to access enhanced audio tracks.
The team at the Royal Spa Centre are currently being trained on the new equipment to ensure staff can assist visitors confidently and effectively.
Normal carer concessions still apply, making cinema outings more affordable for those who require additional support.
Guide dogs are welcome, but the venue ask that wherever possible you notify their staff when making your booking, so they are able to allocate suitable seating with adequate space
The Studio Cinema is well known locally for its mix of blockbuster hits and indie gems, and this new step shows a strong commitment to making film more accessible to all.
